Welcome

Burrum Heads Fishing Club photoBurrum Heads is a small town approximately 30 kms north of Hervey Bay and is situated on the Burrum River.
Burrum Heads caters to the family oriented type holiday with calm & safe beaches.

Accommodation ranges from caravan parks to motel units at the Burrum Heads Hotel, unit accommodation and house rentals. The council caravan park is located right on the waters edge with its own small boat ramp. There is also the Hillcrest Caravan Park with cabin accommodation available. There are two other boat ramps in Burrum Heads.

The little town boasts a hotel, bowls club, hardware, butcher, and bakers shop as well as a general store. You can purchase tackle from Burrum Traders & By the Sea Store. Boat and kayak hire is available at Burrum Traders in Burrum Street. The town also boasts a BP Service Station with an IGA store.

Fishing opportunities at Burrum Heads are only limited by the desires of the fisherman. In the warmer months, school mackeral are abundant at the mouth of the river. Bream and huge whiting are in the river all year and flathead are regularly taken from the beach right in front of the town.

Upstream from Burrum Heads, are a system of mangrove islands surrounded by immense sand and mud flats with an extensive system of shallow gutters running through. Yabbie banks are also prolific here and are the preferred bait of the locals.

The Burrum River system is fed by three other significant rivers, the Gregory, Isis, and Cherwell, offering a different fishing experience to the others.

Burrum Heads is also the venue of the Burrum Heads Easter Fishing Classic run by the Burrum Heads Amateur Fishing Club Inc.

The Burrum Heads Amateur Fishing Club Inc. commenced in 1991 with only a few members. It was formed from the original Howard Fishing Club and has grown in leaps and bounds from there.

Today there are over 70 members which include 6 juniors. Every 3 weeks the Club holds a fishing competition commencing at 4.30pm on the Friday and ending at 4.30pm on Sunday which is followed by a weigh-in and prizes, along with a BBQ at Lions Park, Burrum Street, Burrum Heads.
