General Meeting

The next General Meeting will be held on Tuesday 11 May 2010 commencing at 7.00pm at The Shed, in the Recreation Grounds near the Burrum Heads Bowls Club.  At the General Meeting held in April 2010, members decided to change the meeting days to Tuesdays to avoid a clash with other users of  “The Shed”. 

Planning is underway for the Annual Presentation Night on 5 June at the Burrum Heads Bowls Club at 6:00pm for 6:30pm.  Members should be receiving their invitations and menu choice forms this week.  Members should also look out for their final copy of the Club Constitution and Bylaws, which are being distributed along with next years calendar and BBQ roster.

Anzac Day Ceremony

On Sunday 25 April Club members proudly participated in the Burrum Heads Anzac Day march from the boat ramp to the Community Hall.  President Ron Henderson lay a wreath on the epitaph on behalf of the Club, supported by Club members wearing their official uniforms.

  

Tilapia Problem in the Waterways

Commonly referred to the rabbit of Queensland’s waterways Tilapia are part of the Cichlid Family of fishes and come from the warm, fresh and brackish waters of Africa, Sri Lanka, Southern India and parts of the Americas. They are classified in Queensland as an exotic pest fish and are declared noxious (meaning harmful and unwholesome to the environment). 

A representative of Queensland fisheries visited the Club recently to inform members about options for ridding the local waterways of this pest, and to gather feedback from local fishermen about the problem.  Various alternatives were outlined, and the dangers of the menace making its way into local river and estuarine environments were highlighted.
